I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of. your letter of the 21st. September relative to this Government's Gazette Notice regarding the transmission of Meteorological Observations to the Royal Observatory by wireless telegraphy. I would invite your attention to the fact that the proposal to utilise the Station for the transmission of Meteorological Observa- -tions made at sea was communicated in the Colonial Secretary's letter of 23rd. June and acquiesced in by the Naval Authorities, subject to certain conditione, in Mr. Merry's letter of the 6ta. July.

2.

The Meteorological reports received from ships are of great value to the Colony, especially in the summer when typhoons may be expected, and I shall be glad if the Commander-in- -Chief will be able to see his way to allow such reports to be sent by British Merchant Ships.
